I am looking forward to some honest feedback from my students regarding their experience in our accelerated English Language Arts class this school year!  Please let me know what you remember fondly…and what you’d rather forget!  What lessons were engaging and interesting…and which ones were “not so much”?  What classroom routines did you find meaningful and helpful in cultivating our classroom culture and relationships?  Be honest, but remember-no negative comments about any of your classmates!

After reading Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery”, what do you think was Jackson’s motivation to write such a thought-provoking piece?

Access the Great American Authors link (see below). Select “African American World”, select “History”, then select “Ruby Bridges”. Read the story of Ruby Bridges and then post a three to five sentence reflection/response.

Now that we have spent time researching African Americans who have brought change to the world of sports, politics, environment, economy, literature, etc. please post a comment regarding who you have chosen for your Nonfiction Writing Project.  Please include your reason for selecting this individual.

Our class has explored how the attack on Pearl Harbor was a pivotalmoment in our nation’s history and used a Sequence Flow Map to create a sequential 11 sentence paragraph about those events.  After discussing tonight’s homework assignment with your family, please post comments regarding how WWII effected your family.

Take a minute to compare the “easy” version of Two Thanksgiving Day Gentlemen to the original.  Do you think the theme came across as well in the easier version?  Was the unfamiliar vocabulary in the original worth the effort?
